Today we had an addition to our farm. A rabbit. Madison to be exact! One of our neighbors was gracious enough to give the girls a new pet.
I have never owned a rabbit, although my best friend in high school happened to raise a few which I got to see through a fence every once in a while when I was out visiting at their farm. It is safe to say that my rabbit knowledge is pretty null and void.
Our barn is now housing a rabbit inside it's hutch on a wooden stand. I put some straw in her little shelter and she eagerly burrowed a nice spot for warmth. (Now that the weather decided to chill!) She has her pellets, water, and a snack which her previous owner had purchased for her eating pleasure. She also has her wood for gnawing. I am told that rabbits must gnaw their teeth in order to keep them from growing out of control. The bunny also came equipped with a harness and leash so the girls can take her out and play. And play they did! They had a pretty fun stint of "walking the rabbit" after they got home from their first day of school. My oldest took a few pictures which I will post later.
First goal for me...My "bestie" in Oregon happens to be a breeder! Since I am a rabbit novice, I need to consult with my expert in Oregon on proper rabbit care. I also need to figure out what type of rabbit we now own! Once I have more rabbit knowledge, I will give you an update! Lastly, I do not have an excuse on why I should not let the girls be in 4-H. So, 4-H...here we come! Project #1...Rabbit.
